Julio Ceasar Chavez Sr. picked Nonito Donaire as the next #1 pound for pound in the world

Closer to the edge of their colorful boxing career with guys like Floyd Mayweather, Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, who will step up and become the next pound for pound boxing icon? A question  that many of us have our own opinions, but what if that question was asked to a certified boxing legend?

That is exactly what happened recently when a man considered the greatest fighter ever to come out of Mexico, Chavez Sr was asked to give his thought on who will be the boxing's next P4P star. A quite tough choice for the retired legend, but he ultimately picked Donaire Jr.

Interviewed previously by ESPN Deportes, on many boxing related issues, Chavez Sr. was asked who will be the sport's next #1 P4P best. Chavez Sr. stated: "It's hard to pick one, but I definitely think Nonito Donaire has demonstrated that he is one of the best in the world. "Chavez Sr. went on to add: "I think Donaire will be the one to reign over the sport."

Last December 8, 2012,  Donaire floored Chavez’s fellow Mexican, Jorge Arce, in just three rounds. The win was only one of four in 2012 aginst Toshiaki Nishioka, Jeffrey Methabula and Welfredo  Vasquez Jr. and reigned as king in the super bantamweight division. Donaire, the reigning WBO and the RING super bantamweight champion, is currently rated as the No. 5 pound-for-pound boxer in the world. The “Filipino Flash” is set to make his ring return in April 27, 2013 against the Cuban WBA 122-pound champion Guillermo Rignodeaux .
