WBO, Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond Belt super
bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire feels great
about the “good news” that his wife Rachel is expecting their first
born.
Donaire and Rachel who called us to give us
the news were extremely pleased even as Donaire said he would “have to
work harder because there will be an extra mouth to feed.”
Boxing appeared to take a back seat as
Donaire was all excited about being a father even as he said he hadn’t
heard anything about his next fight.
He said "I'm happy with all the awards and
victories in 2012 but to me everything was nothing in comparison to when
my wife told me she is pregnant."
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the Manila
Standard that Donaire will enter the ring in April most probably against
WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux but there is nothing definite.
For his winning the 122 pounds title in
February and three successful title defenses against IBF champion
Jeffrey Mathebula, WBC super champion Toshiaki Nishioka and four
division champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce, Donaire won a series of
accolades as the “Fighter of the Year” from Ring Magazine, ESPN, Yahoo
Sports and boxingscene.com.
He is also certain to be named the Philippine Sportswriters Asian “Athlete of the Year” in the annual awards in March.
