'Floyd not comfy with Guerrero's fighting style'

Posted at 02/16/2013 8:37 PM | Updated as of 02/16/2013 8:37 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Juan Manuel Marquez said he knows the reason behind Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s preference to fight Devon Alexander instead of mandatory challenger Robert Guerrero.

The Mexican boxer said Mayweather, the WBC welterweight title holder, is not comfortable fighting an aggressive boxer like Guerrero.

Marquez claims the undefeated American "prefers to face someone who is more of a boxer" like IBF champion Alexander.

"Floyd Mayweather is the best fighter in the world, pound for pound, but he never takes any risks," he said in a Boxing Scene report.

Mayweather earlier tweeted that Alexander is the front runner in his list of opponents for his ring return on May 4.

This sparked a negative reaction from the camp of Kell Brook, who was supposed to fight Alexander.
The WBC, meanwhile, called on Mayweather to defend his crown against Guerrero.

Arum says reputation on the line with Pacquiao-Marquez V

Posted at 02/15/2013 10:12 PM | Updated as of 02/15/2013 10:12 PM

MANILA – Top Rank CEO Bob Arum stressed that his reputation as a promoter will take a big hit if he fails to arrange a rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Arum said he should be able to strike a deal between Pacquiao and Marquez since both boxers fight under Top Rank.

"Both of these guys are under contract to Top Rank," Arum said in Boxing Scene.

"If I can't make the deal under those circumstances, then I don't deserve to be in the business."

Marquez has balked at the idea of facing Pacquiao again, since they have already fought four times.
Out of those four fights, the Mexican drew once and lost twice.

In the fourth installment, however, which took place last December, Marquez knocked out Pacquiao.

"Regarding the fifth fight with Pacquiao, I am not interested in doing it,” said Marquez. “There is no point.

The objective was achieved and everything that was outstanding is now finished.”

But Arum insisted that there is no other lucrative fight available for the Mexican.

"You understand, there is no fight that can be made for him - and I'm his promoter - that can be anywhere close to what he would make from Pacquiao," Arum said.

"Boxing is a business and he's going to do what is best for him and his family."

Donaire said, I'm always ready for Regondeaux fight

The "flash" Nonito Donaire who was named “Fighter of the Year” by the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America after earlier been given the same recognition by leading sports organizations such as ESPN, Yahoo Sports, Ring and the widely ready internet site Boxing Scene was also named “Athlete of the Year” by the Philippine Sportswriters
Association along with female world amateur champion boxer Josie Gabuco, the five-peat Ateneo UAAP basketball team and the Big League softball world series winner Team Manila.

He told the Manila Standard “while it's going to be Rigondeaux, it makes no difference and doesn’t matter who it is” after the Rigondeaux camp brought up an issue with Top Rank Promotions and Vic Darchinyan was being considered as an alternate opponent.

Vic Darchinyan himself said, Rigondeaux was not worthy of fighting Donaire and claimed “The Filipino Flash” would have to buy a pair of roller skates because the Cuban will run throughout the fight.

Donaire also said “he’ll probably run since there is nothing else he can do. He can’t fight coming forward” after Rigondeaux was quoted by boxingscene.com saying Donaire "should prepare for whats coming."

The four division world champion said he hasn’t watched any tapes of Rigondeaux’s fights as yet and will have a better idea after he sees his videos and we’ll see what he’s going to do and we’ll be ready for whatever he brings.” The champion said, he had started light training this week and indicated “its been going well” and that he’ll “pick it up later on.”

Finally, Guillermo Regondeaux completely signed the contract to fight Donaire

The attorney for Gary Hyde, manager of WBA junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, has informed RingTV.com that the two-time Olympic gold medalist and WBA junior featherweight belt holder (Regondeaux)  has signed his contract to face super bantamweight 122-pound champion Nonito Donaire on April 13 on HBO. This was channeled through the attorney for Gary Hyde, Gullermo's manager has informed the Ring TV.com.

Pat English, Hyde's attorney, said Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 knockouts) "signed within the hour" to face Donaire (30-1, 21 KOs), both are promoted by Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.  He has called me to say that it has happened and that he had forwarded it to my office," said Arum, who was at lunch and had not yet seen the documents. "I believe him, because he's a responsible guy.

" Arum said, "Everything is in the process of happening," said Arum. "When it happens, it will happen, and then, we'll announce the signing and the site." Donaire is coming off December's sensational third-round knockout against future boxing hall of fame Jorge Arce of Mexico.

October 2012, Donaire's ninth-round stoppage of Toshiaki Nishioka, handing the legendary Japanese fighter his first loss since March of 2004 -- a span of eight years and seven months and the loss became the root of his retirement.

Focused Rigondeaux tells Donaire to prepare

Posted at 02/11/2013 7:24 PM | Updated as of 02/11/2013 7:24 PM

MANILA, Philippines – With a promotional dispute behind him, World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux can now focus on his upcoming title unification bout against Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire.

Rigondeaux’s co-promoters, Caribe Promotions and Top Rank, recently resolved a legal dispute that paved the way for the Cuban’s much-awaited shot against Donaire, the World Boxing Organization champion.

“I am very happy that finally we’re going to have this fight that so many people have been waiting for,” Rigondeaux told Boxing Scene.

“We have gone through some difficult moments, but common sense and good faith have prevailed. My career will be stronger now that Caribe and Top Rank have agreed to (work together),” he added.

The former Olympic gold medalist then issued a warning to Donaire, whom he will fight on April 13 at a yet to be determined location.

“Now I can look at this date of April 14th without any worries. Just tell Nonito to prepare for what’s coming,” Rigondeaux said.

The fight against Donaire will only be Rigondeaux’s 12th professional fight. He has an 11-0 professional record with eight wins coming by knockout.

Nothing definite yet for Pacquiao's next fight: Koncz

Posted at 02/11/2013 6:55 PM | Updated as of 02/11/2013 7:27 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Negotiations are ongoing for the next fight of Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, but nothing is definite yet, according to the fighter’s chief adviser, Michael Koncz.

In an interview with Ring TV's Lem Satterfield, Koncz confirmed that talks are ongoing for a possible fifth fight against Pacquiao’s great Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

“Yes, Marquez is a possibility. But there are other fighters that are possibilities, too,” he said. “We’re negotiating, and if we can come to terms on the money, we’ll do it.”

“And if not, then it’s up to Manny,” Koncz added.

Koncz stressed that as of the moment, everything is up in the air as even Pacquiao is unsure of what his next career move will be.

“Nothing is definite. Manny hasn’t made his mind up when he’s going to fight, or who he’s going to fight or where he’s going to fight,” Koncz said.

“I’m in negotiations with Top Rank right now on Manny’s behalf, but we haven’t made any decisions yet.”

It was widely expected that Pacquiao and Marquez will face each other for a fifth time after the Mexican decided to postpone his retirement.

Marquez, however, recently said that he is no longer interested in another fight against Pacquiao, as he had accomplished his goal when he knocked out the Filipino in their fourth fight last December.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is confident that the fight will push through, however.

“As long as he’s fighting, he’s not a fool. Of course, he’s going to fight Manny rather than fight somebody else for a lot less money,” Arum told Ronnie Nathanielsz in a Boxing Scene report.

Pacquiao was guaranteed a $26-million purse for the fourth fight while Marquez received a career-best purse of $6 million.

Marquez will likely earn an even bigger purse should the two rivals face off for a fifth time.

Pacquiao wants his September fight to take place in Philippines

Manny Pacquiao doesn’t want to have his next fight staged in the United States due to the taxes that are taken out. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum told Abs-cbn news.com “He [Pacquiao] says that he doesn’t want to fight in the United States because of the high taxes and it’s hard to not to blame him.”

He won’t make the same kind of money in pay per view from any other country that he does in the U.S, yet he still doesn’t want to fight their because of the taxes that are taken out. If most of the money that Pacquiao is receiving is coming from PPV buys from the U.S., it’s hard to see how he’s coming out ahead by fighting in another country because the PPV money is still going to be taxed as it always is because it’s from the U.S fans.

As far as I can tell, the only thing that won’t be taxed is the gate money if they have it take place in another country. The ticket money is nothing compared to the PPV cash, so it’s not as if Pacquiao is making out well by fighting outside of the country.

Arum doesn’t see it as a realistic option for Pacquiao to fight in the Philippines because of the time difference. The Philippines is 16 hours ahead of California time in the U.S, which means Pacquiao would have to fight at 1 p.m on Sunday in order for the fight to be seen live on Saturday night in the United States.

If Pacquiao’s PPV money is still going to be getting hit by a big tax as it leaves the country, then he’s only going to be making out with the gate money, and I don’t know how much that’ll give him if the fight is staged in the Philippines. Can Arum sell tickets to the Filipino population for $200 to $1000?

ARUM MEETS MARQUEZ THIS WEEK ON 5TH FIGHT WITH PACQUIAO

PhilBoxing.com

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum insists that Juan Manuel Marquez hasn’t turned down a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao and says the speculation over a possible opponent for Pacquiao other than Marquez is unwarranted and suggested that everybody stays quiet.

In a conversation with the Manila Standard, Arum revealed that he is meeting with Marquez this week, obviously to discuss a fifth fight with Pacquiao which he had planned for September.

Arum told us “as long as he’s fighting, he’s not a fool. Of course he’s going to fight Manny rather than fight somebody for a lot less money.”

The astute Top Rank promoter had earlier stated that Marquez claims that he didn’t need to fight Pacquiao once more was mere “posturing” and the Mexican was actually “negotiating” but was confident he would eventually agree to a fifth fight against Pacquiao.

Marquez scored a crushing 6th round, one punch knockout over Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena last December 8 which shocked the boxing world since Pacquiao had broken Marquez’ nose and bloodied his face and had him in deep trouble.

At the time of the knockout, Pacquiao was leading by one point on the scorecards of all three judges despite suffering a flash knockdown earlier in round 3.

Speculation of a possible opponent should Marquez refuse a fifth fight has centered around Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

Pacquiao has indicated that he doesn’t plan to chase Marquez whom he beat twice in their first three fights and was denied the decision in their first clash when judge Burt Clements admitted in a post-fight interview that he had made a mistake in scoring the first round 10-7 when it should have been 10-6 because of the three knockdowns scored by Pacquiao.

Clements said he should have scored it 10-6 just like the two other judges and if he had, Pacquiao would have won the fight instead of it ending in a draw.

Pacquiao may not fight in Sin City - Arum

Posted at 02/09/2013 10:57 AM | Updated as of 02/09/2013 4:38 PM

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - The Philippines’ most popular fighter who was knocked out in Vegas is considering other venues for his next fight.

After 120 days of mandatory suspension given by the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to the knock-out that planked Manny Pacquiao to the canvass last December, the fighting congressman can now submit a new application for a boxing license in Nevada.

“He can start training in February and any time after March 9th, he can fight,” said boxing promoter Bob Arum.

But Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) executive director Keith Kizer said that the commission has not received Pacquiao's application for 2013.

“We haven’t received any application for 2013,” said the NSAC official.

Arum said Pacquiao does not want his fights to happen in the US due to its high tax rates. He stressed that almost 40% of the boxer’s fight revenue go to his taxes.

“He says that he doesn't want to fight in the United States because of the high taxes which I can hardly blame him and you know [Juan Manuel] Marquez faces the same high taxes,” said the Top Rank CEO.

Arum blamed President Obama’s policy on higher taxes that blows Pacquiao's fights away from the US.

“The administration didn't help raising the tax rates from 35% to 39.6%. You know, there’s a limit to what these guys wanna pay, you know, that’s almost 40% of his purse going for taxes, that’s a lot,” he said.

Mexico, Singapore, and Macau are a few of the places mentioned to host Pacquiao's next fight.
Although Pacquiao-Marquez 5 is not yet set, Top Rank assures boxing fans that Pacquiao will be fighting in September.

When asked if the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will take place this year, Arum said, “In China, they never heard of Mayweather, so they heard of Pacquiao [and] they love Pacquiao. Apparently they’re not much interested in Mayweather.”

Fililipino-American Brian Viloria, meanwhile, will slug it out with Mexican Juan Francisco Estrada for a world title fight on April 6 in Macau.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming will also be featured in the event.

Donaire-Rigondeaux may land in NY

NYC fight fans are hoping that the April 13 clash between Filipino-American superstar Nonito Donaire, who holds the WBO super bantam crown, and WBA super bantam champ Guillermo Rigondeaux will land in The City, perhaps at Radio City Music Hall. But a person with knowledge of negotiations between the BWAA 2012 Fighter of the Year Donaire and the Cuban cutie Rigondeaux (11-0; age 32) said it was too early to call the venue.

My source said he is "confident" the fight will go down, but said the venue is "up in the air" and that California and Texas can't be ruled out as fight sites. "We're trying to finalize a lot of things but given it's Friday night and there's a snowstorm (in the East), this will drag through the weekend."

Donaire's arc is complicated slightly by the fact that his wife Rachel is due to give birth in June, so he wants to carve out a chunk of time then to savor the experience. The boxer holds a 31-1 record.

Guillermo Regondeaux has finally signed the contract to fight Donaire on April 13.

Boris Arencibia,CEO of Caribe Promotions Regondeaux's co- promoter said, that Regondeaux has signed the contract on Friday for the fight against Nonito Donaire.

February 8, 2013,  Friday evening, Regondeaux's manager reached partial agreement on the anticipated super bantamweight unification bout between  Regondeaux and Nonito Donaire.

Guillermo needs to be 100% percent ready against a well tested super bantamweight champion Donaire. The distractions that arose in the negotiations to make the fight, they were overcome to a great extend and we are sure that without this extra pressure and the stress that the (legal dispute)produced. Regondeaux will return to the ring with full of motivation because this kind of fight will bring him to fame and full his money bank.

The main objective of Guillermo is to show all his potentials against Donaire and knock him out. I can confirm one thing, Guillermo is a monster and Nonito has never faced a kind of fighter like him. We certainly know Donaire's level as a champion that is why we respect what he can do inside the ring against our fighter. But, Regondeaux is also a champion and ready to offer the boxing enthusiasts a very exciting fight.

No to Mayweather rematch-Marquez said

Juan Manuel Marquez, the only Mexican boxer to bump Pacquioa's face on the canvass in their fourth fight last December 8, 2012 revealed during a televised interview in Mexico, that a rematch with Floyd Mayweather is cetainly not part of his future boxing plans.

He has no plan of avenging his one-sided loss to Floyd in their fight which took place in 2009, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Marquez is also disappointed about the amount of money he lost in every fight he had to the U.S. Treasury.

Both Marquez and Pacquioa were very interested to fight outside the United States,
maybe in Macau to avoid the ample amount of taxes paid in their respective fights.

Marquez said, every time he fought in the United States territory he lost 30% of his purse to the IRS. Then he has to pay 10% to his coach,Nacho Beristain, and many other expenses. He is just lucky to pocket 40% to 50% of his purse.

Marquez tells how his tactics turned successful in a spectacular fashion against Manny Pacquioa

Their previous three fights were hugely decided to the favor of Pacquioa. But last December 8, 2012, their 4th fight was far different from the previous ones when Marquez salvaged a 6th round historical knock out against Pacquioa.

Juan Manuel Marquez gave a detailed account of his  knock out victory against Manny in thier 4th encounter for ESPN Deportes' "Golpe a Golpe".

Sanchez: You practiced that counterpunch a lot. Many people think it was a lucky punch. How did you decide that it was the right moment to throw it?

Marquez: We were waiting for the right moment. Manny Pacquiao always makes a fake move that I know too well. He fakes a charge forward and then looks like he is going to follow with a one-two. That's a common fake he has. What I do is, I wait for the moment, he fakes the punch ... that one-two. Then I go for his right hand as he throws it as a jab -- I go toward his right hand. He comes forward with all his weight, and that's why the fall becomes more forceful and spectacular -- because he is coming straight to me and I make my body twist and turn, and the right hand wasn't in a straight position.

Donaire's wife will give birth on July

Nonito Donaire and his wife Rachel are expecting a baby boy to be named Jarel Michael. “Jarel stands for Jun And Rachel Everlasting Love while Michael is in honor of St. Michael the Archangel whom we always pray to for strength,” said Donaire.

“We’re very excited about the coming of our baby. It’s an enormous blessing that our love for each other will create a child to make our family complete. It’s a fulfilment. My life is incredible with Rachel and now, we’ll have a baby to keep us even closer together.”

The other day, Rachel went to a clinic for an ultrasound to view the baby in her womb. To her surprise, the baby had his hands up like a fighter defending himself and was constantly kicking.  Rachel was a former taekwondo champion. “The baby is very active and that’s why Rachel gets tired easily,” said Donaire.

Donaire said they’re definitely going for more children. “But we’re taking it slow,” he said. “We’ll test this one out first and go from there. We’re blessed with this baby. This is a blessing that we’ll cherish more than a championship or any award.”

On the other point, his next fight has not been firmed up, it is expected that Donaire will battle WBA superbantamweight titlist Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba in a unification showdown in Las Vegas on April 13.

Bradley puts Pacquiao fight behind him

Posted at 02/07/2013 8:04 PM | Updated as of 02/07/2013 8:04 PM

MANILA, Philippines – World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Timothy Bradley Jr. is ready to move forward with his career and move past the controversy that hounded him last year.

In June 2012, Bradley shocked the boxing world when he defeated Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao via split decision to take the WBO belt.

But instead of raising his profile, the victory only served to hold Bradley back as most believed he lost to Pacquiao. To make matters worse, he suffered a foot injury during the fight and was thus out of action for eight months.

Bradley is now set to return to the ring against Pacquiao’s sparring partner, Ruslan Provodnikov of Russia, and the unbeaten American said he has put the Pacquaio fight behind him.

“I don’t even think about Pacquiao,” Bradley said in aRing TV report. “It doesn’t matter to me. At the end of the day, I’m still undefeated and I’m still the champ. I leave the past in the past.”

“The whole Pacquiao situation, whatever. It’s irrelevant,” he added.

Even though he was the first man to beat Pacquiao since 2005, Bradley was not given a rematch by the Filipino legend and also missed out on potential big money fights against Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather.

Even so, Bradley says he is “just glad to be back.”

“I want to be active this year. Three fights is what I’ve asked Top Rank and (manager) Cameron Dunkin. I prefer to fight three times a year,” he said.

Bradley will defend his WBO welterweight title against Provodnikov on March 16 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. – With a report from Steve Angeles, ABS-CBN News North America

Chavez likely to work with Donaire's trainer: Roach

Posted at 02/07/2013 8:08 PM | Updated as of 02/07/2013 8:11 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Hall-of-Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach believes former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will end up working with Oxnard-based trainer Robert Garcia, who is the coach of champions Nonito Donaire and Brandon Rios.
Roach and Chavez parted ways after the Mexican prodigy lost for the first time in his career to Argentina’s Sergio Martinez last September. The loss came after a difficult training camp wherein Chavez repeatedly missed training sessions.

Roach told Boxing Scene that he knew Chavez wanted to work with legendary Mexican trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain.

“I heard they were trying to hire Nacho. I said Nacho wouldn’t put up with his bullsh*t,” said the five-time Trainer of the Year.

He said he expects Chavez to “end up in Oxnard” with Garcia, partly because the boxer’s strength and conditioning trainer, Alex Ariza, has reportedly been working with the Garcia camp.

“Alex was down there with him and (Chavez’s manager) Billy Keane,” Roach said. “They are trying to get someone to train him, but they’ve had no luck so far.”

“I would love to train him if he comes to the gym every day, but if it’s going to be like last time, don’t bother me,” he added.

But while Garcia said he “would love to train Chavez,” he denies that he has reached a deal with the Mexican fighter.

“Nobody has said anything to me. Alex Ariza has never even been in my gym, and I don’t even know Billy Keane,” he said in a separate Boxing scene report.

“A lot of people keep asking me about it, and I would love to train him, but nobody has said anything to me,” Garcia said.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather on September?

After Juan Manuel Marquez decided against doing a fifth fight with the Filipino superstar.
Pacquiao is not thinking a lot of it.

According to his business manager Eric Pineda, Manny has not even discussed anything regarding Marquez or a fifth fight being eyed in September.

Marquez said few days ago, there is no point in facing Pacquiao a fifth time because he has already achieved the result he wanted in four fights with the Filipino.

In case Marquez avoids Pacquiao, the fighting congressman from Sarangani can look for someone else to fight in September. That someone else could be Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Pacquiao was in a meeting yesterday afternoon and is more concerned with the news of a huge fire that left more than a hundred families in General Santos City homeless. Pacquiao had wanted to do a fight in Manila in April following his knockout loss to Marquez last December, but according to Pineda the boxer himself is still having second thoughts.

Some have their opinions that Marquez is just trying to negotiate and putting a price on his head for a fifth fight. But others think there’s more to that. “Maybe Marquez is more concerned with the drug-testing procedure that will be in place in case a fifth fight happens. That’s what others say,” Pineda said.

Marquez knocked out Pacquiao in the sixth round last Dec. 8 in Las Vegas, but prior to the fight he faced a lot of questions that he’s into illegal performance enhancers.
The presence of Angel Hernandez in the Marquez camp also raised the suspicion because the former is the same strength and conditioning coach that once admitted providing illegal enhancers to certain athletes.
“ This could be a reason why he doesn’t want to do a fifth fight. There will be random testing to be stated in the contract,” said Pineda.

Roach - Marquez will end up fighting Manny in a 5th time for money

Pacquioa's trainer, Freddie Roach believes that the 5th fight between the two boxing legends will happen despite Juan Manuel Marquez’s reluctance to fight Manny Pacquiao again.
Roach told Boxing Scene that Marquez will eventually end up squaring off with Pacquiao again since there is no other option left for the gritty Mexican fighter.

"What other fight for him is out there? Is he going to fight [Floyd] Mayweather again? Can he beat Mayweather? He got killed by Mayweather. So what's the biggest fight out there? Can he fight the young guys coming up?” Pacquiao’s trainer said. Roach added that since Marquez’s professional career is nearing its end, the Mexican is likely to choose fights that will give him the biggest purses. “He'll negotiate when it gets closer, I'm not worried about that. He really doesn't have anything else. Bradley and all of those other guys out there, he's not going to make the money that he would for Pacquiao," Roach said.

Marquez already had four fights with Pacquiao, drawing the first one and losing the next two. But their fourth fight ended by a shocking sixth-round knockout in favor of Marquez. Roach said the stunning ending of the four fight has generated much interest for a fifth installment. "This is bigger than Mayweather-Pacquiao right now. However, the third fight was boring, so not that many people were interested in the fourth. But the fourth fight may been the best one [in the series], both ways. It was back and forth, both guys were on the deck. In this one, both of them will make a lot of money. I'm not worried about negotiations, Bob Arum will do his job," Roach said.

Marquez earlier said" he is already cutting his ring rivalry with Pacquiao because the fans are no longer interested to see them fighting again. He added that he got what he wanted when he knocked out Pacquiao last December.

If Regondeaux out for April 13, Vic Darchinyan is plan B for Donaire's 2013 fight

One of the hottest news in the boxing world this week is a scheduled unification fight between the WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Regondeaux and WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire on April 13, 2013.

Guillermo is now preparing for the fight of his career that is why he parted  ways with trainer Jorge Rubio and officially retained the services the Pedro  Diaz, a Cuban coach, who also trained Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Angel Cotto.

Regondeaux said, Top Rank sent a contract for the Nonito Donaire fight which my advisers are reviewing, but I made it clear to Top Rank that I wanted to resolve the legal  problems between my promoter, Carrabi Promotions and Top Rank before the date of the fight.

Arum said, the scheduled fight is not too far so he will not waste time with a back and forth debate with Regondeaux on the legal case which he believes has no merit.

When this situation becomes difficult to resolve, Arum has plan B for the Donaire fight will be pushed through on April 13. This fight is a rematch with Vic Darchinyan ( 38-5-1,27 KO's).

Donaire placed himself in the list of the rising superstars in boxing by knocking out the Darchinyan in the 5th round with a counter left hook  landed to the chain of the champion and captured his first championship belt in the flyweight division.

Born in Armenia, Darchinyan who became an Australian citizen and now fights out of Glendale, California is a former IBF/IBO flyweight champion, WBC/WBA/IBF super flyweight champion and an IBO bantamweight champion.

Guillermo Regondeaux- Doniare's next opponent has new trainer

A change of  tide for the World Boxing Association super bantamweight champion Guillermo Regondeaux two months before their anticipated fight against the Filipino "flash" Nonito Donaire. He told Rick Reeno of Boxing Scene that he has parted ways with Jorge Rubio and has hired fellow Cuba Pedro Diaz, who also trains former world champion Miguel Cotto.

“I feel very comfortable with Pedro Diaz, being my longtime trainer since the amateur days and I feel great with the decision and I am going forward with Pedro,” Rigondeaux said. The coaching change comes just two months before Rigondeaux is set to face fellow champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire.

But Rigondeaux’s manager, Gary Hyde, scored his fighter’s decision, pointing out that “changing trainers going into the biggest fight of his career is not in his interest.” Hyde said Rigondeaux has already left two world-class trainers before in Freddie Roach and Ronnie Shields.

“I did not have any problems with my prior trainers. It’s just a decision that I feel is the best one for my career, by going with the trainer that knew me since the amateurs, since the Olympics,” Rigondeaux said. “The other trainer is a very good trainer, but this is the right decision for me with the biggest fight of my career coming up,” he added.
Guillermo Rigondeaux also confirmed that he has not yet signed the contract for his April 13 fight against Donaire as he is still waiting for Top Rank to settle their dispute with Caribe Promotions.

He Manny! It's my time - Juan Manuel Marquez

Now the flag of Mexico is almost at the top of the boxing world after the 6th round stoppage of a hail Mary punch courtesy by Juan Manuel Marquez landed to the jaw of the eight division world champion Manny Pacquioa from the  Philippines. Since then, Juan Manuel prize tag becomes higher and no longer behind the shadow of Manny Pacqiuoa's fame in the boxing community.
