Pacquiao plays hoops as he waits for Marquez

 MANILA – Manny Pacquiao is keeping himself busy as the boxing world waits for Juan Manuel Marquez’s final decision regarding their supposed fifth fight.

He plays basketball three hours a day to keep himself trim and fit.

“Noon pa mahilig na ko sa basketball,” said the fighting congressman. “Ito ang cross training ko para ma-maintain ang condition.”

Pacquiao, who lost via sixth round knockout to Marquez last December, said he plans to return to the boxing ring in September.

The Filipino superstar wants to get back at Marquez, but the Mexican recently said Pacquiao is the last of his options.

Marquez maintained he has already finished his business with Pacquiao by knocking out the Filipino boxer last December.

"It was clear [who is the best], we had already accomplished the goal… [fighting him again] would be the last option," said the counter-punching specialist.

His pronouncements are contrary to his promoter’s claim that the Mexican is still interested in fighting Pacquiao.

Top Rank’s Bob Arum said the fifth fight will only depend on the money involved and the quality of opponents available.


Other boxers being paraded as Marquez’s other possible opponents are WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and former lightweight champion Brandon Rios.

Until Marquez makes his final decision, Pacquiao will relax and shoot some hoops.
