MANILA – Cuban amateur standout Guillermo Rigondeaux may be talented, but is not experienced enough to handle someone like Nonito Donaire, said undefeated Mexican boxer Abner Mares.

Mares, one of Donaire’s rivals in the super bantamweight class, said Rigondeaux remains largely untested in the professional ranks.

“He's only fought professionally like what, 10-12 fights?” said the former WBC super bantamweight champion in ESNews.

Mares, who fights under Golden Boy Promotions, recently climbed the featherweight class after failing to secure a fight with the Top Rank-promoted Donaire.

But he remains positive that Donaire’s experience and fighting skill will be too much for Rigondeaux.
“He's got way, way more experience as a professional,” Mares said of the “Filipino Flash”.

Donaire is already a four-division champion with a pro record of 31 wins against 1 defeat.
Rigondeaux, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is unbeaten in 11 pro fights.

“Rigondeaux has 400, I think, amateur fights, he's got talent, but you know it's a whole different ball game when you fight professional,” said Mares.

“I know talent can do so much for you in the ring, but only to a certain level.
